This book treats Upper Miocine ostracodes from Northeastern and Northwestern Bulgaria. Specific ostracod associations characterizing the Sarmatian, the Maeotian and the Pontian, as well as their substages, were found in these regions.
The book is intended for geologists and palaeontologists working in the fields of stratigraphy and ostracod palaeontology of the Miocene sediments.
The Neogene rocks in Northern Bulgaria were formed in different basins of the Eastern Paratethys. The Sarnatian sediments from the Euxinian basin (in Northeastern Bulgaria) and from from Dacian basin (in Northwestern) Bulgaria were deposited during the Late Miocene. Maeotian sediments (only in Norhwestern Bulgaria) and Pontian sediments, well known in both Northwestern and Northeastern Bulgaria, developed also in the southernmost pasrts of the Dacian or Fore-Carpathian basin.
